Frequently Asked Questions

I am Veteran/Active Military/Reservist, how can Patriots and Paws help me?

At Patriots and Paws we provide items you might need for your home.  It could be a couch, a dining room table or even a soup ladle.

On our Resource page you will find where you can submit a list of what you need.

You receive it for “FREE”, no string attached.

We do NOT deliver.

As Veteran/Active Military/Reservist what do you need from me?

We need to see your VA Card, or Military Id or DD214 and a current photo ID, or a Driver’s License with Veteran on it when you come to your appointment.

You must be at appointment.

What does Patriots and Paws consider Activity Military/Veteran?

Activity Military means some one who is still serving our country.

A Veteran is anyone who has fulfilled their contract with the Military.

Where does the Paws part of Patriots and Paws come in?

As of 2020 a new law went into effect SB245 where a Veteran (whose CDL has Veteran on it) can go to any California county shelter and adopted an animal at no cost.  You will still have to pay for microchipping and licensing.

Right now, we want to open a kennel so we can house the animals of Veterans, homeless, low-income seniors and men and women of domestic violence at no cost.  This is not currently open.

How can I help Patriots and Paws?

Currently at Patriots and Paws we can use donations for our Veteran/Active Military/Reservists.  We are in need of everything.  Our focus is basic home furnishings.  For a complete list go to our forms page and print out our what we take list.

Imagine you coming home from deployment, and you need to set up your home.  Or, what if you have been homeless and just got housing you need everything. Therefore we need basis home furnishings.

As a non-profit we are doing great things, but we can do so much more.

As with any non-profits we also need other items, like printing, signage, etc.

We also can use cash for other expenses.

Rent is our biggest expense.  We are hoping to buy the building we are currently in.

We currently have 1 full time employee and 6 part time employees.

Our future plans include a kennel and with that we will have more expenses, but the needs of the Active Military/Veterans will always come first.

Can you use volunteer help?

Yes, if you are interested, please contact us via email volunteer@patriotsandpaws.org

Our main areas are in the warehouse and our yard.

We can also use volunteers on our board and event committee.

I work for a Veterinary how can we help Patriots and Paws?

We are glad you asked.  We will be in need of some of your services.  As animals are being adopted, we want to be sure that they are fixed and current on their shots and that is where you come in.  Please contact us via email info@patriotsandpaws.org and let us know you are interested in helping us out.

On occasion we get asked if we can help our Veterans/Active Military/Reservist with care with their animals and when we have Veterinarians who are willing to donate some of their services we connect them.

So if we donate to Patriots and Paws can we get a tax donation that the IRS will recognize?

Yes, we are a 501(c) (3) recognized by the IRS.  Contributions are deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.

We are qualified to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfer or gifts under section 2055, 2106, or 2522 of this code.  We are a public charity.

How much of your non-profit goes to the Veteran/Active Military/Reservists?

When donations of home furnishings are donated, the amount that goes to the Veteran/Active Military/Reservists depends on how much is on their wish list.  Our goal is to help them.  We have expenses and as we grow, we will have more.
